Respect. Do you get enough?
This is your chance to get involved and call for an end to negative representation!
Dawn Butler MP has tabled an Early Day Motion (EDM) in Parliament. The EDM asks our politicians to support young people's call for an end to negative representation and to ensure young people's voices are heard in public debate.
By emailing your MP you are asking him or her to take action on this matter.
Full Text of EDM:
EDM 1885
"That this House supports young people's call for an end to negative representation; applauds the work of organisations such as the British Youth Council (BYC) and online charity YouthNet that empower young people to speak out on issues which they say affect them; acknowledges that only a small minority of young people are antisocial; further acknowledges that the media does not give young people enough recognition for the positive things they do; and urges Hon. Members to ensure young people's views are represented in public debate by creating opportunities for their input such as holding youth surgeries and visiting schools, colleges and universities."

As your constituent I am writing to you to ask you to sign EDM 1885 tabled by Dawn Butler MP supporting efforts to incorporate young people's views into public debate and to challenge the negative representation of young people. As a young person, I am concerned by: - the media's use of stereotypes such as 'yob' and 'hoodie' - Older people in the community being fearful of young people in light of media stereotypes - Politicians tarring all young people with the same brush - Politicians not listening to young people's views By signing the EDM you will be supporting young people to challenge the degree to which they feel they are misrepresented and supporting a change in our culture where young people are valued not vilified.
