People with conditions like MS, Parkinson’s and heart disease are still waiting for the free prescriptions they need to help them stay well. In recent years, there has been a broad political consensus that the current system is unfair. Last year, prescription charges were abolished for cancer patients. This was very welcome news, but people with long-term conditions are still waiting. In May, the Government published the independent review of prescription charges by Professor Sir Ian Gilmore, President of the Royal College of Physicians. He has recommended free prescriptions for people with long-term conditions and outlined how this policy should be introduced. The new government has said that it will make any further decisions on this only in conjunction with this Autumn’s Spending Review. I would like you to sign EDM 523 to put pressure on the new government to ensure that the unfair prescription charges system is reformed so that people with long-term conditions are not charged to take the medications they need to stay well. Thank you for your support.
